After months of negotiations, there is finally a coalition agreement. The housing market is a critical issue that needs serious attention. While the previous government had ambitions, housing construction still lags behind. Higher construction costs, more expensive building sites, and lengthy procedures are the main reasons why new developments haven’t taken off. Building more homes, especially in the private rental sector, is key to easing the housing market. Many people remain in their homes longer than they’d like because there are no alternatives. We hope the new government will fulfill its promise to build more homes.
First quarter of 2024: Tight market continues
Despite the tight housing market, with an increasing number of buyers and bidders for each home, we’ve still managed to help some buyers secure their dream home. While selling homes is a luxury with multiple interested parties, assisting buyers has become more challenging. There’s still plenty of money in the market, allowing buyers to place increasingly higher bids. Even with rising incomes and stable interest rates, having a substantial amount of personal savings is essential to have a chance in the current market. Overbidding, or offering above market value, has almost become the norm, and this is only possible if buyers use their own funds.
